Can a Generic Device Engines support responses

Hello,

We are currently investigating the use of a generic device engine to sent notification to a non-standard device.

Is it possible to support 2-way communication to this Generic Device?  If this is the case how can should we handle responses from the Generic Device. Or maybe someone has an example of a 2-way Generic Device.
