CA SDM 12.5 IA add a Group Predicate

$

Hi all,

I wish to add a predicate for a Group name as defined in CA SDM, the reason I want to do this I want people to subscribe to Tickets that are a certain Priority that are Transferred to their Group only. Currently if a Subscription is setup they get a notification for a P1 ticket. I can see Assignee name is listed as a Predicate so was hoping I could add Group Name or any other type of field that is available from CA SDM to give more control.

thanks

NNMi - XMatters Integration Failure

$

Greetings,

Been having some difficulty lately with the NNMi-XMatters integration.  Everything is truly basic and as close to OOTB as your gonna

get.  But at one point it did actually work.  Using NNMi 9.0 with the integration.  Looking in the NNMi.log I see the following error message

2012-06-06 09:19:29,261 [Thread-11] ERROR nnmi.NetworkNodeManagerWSUtil - Unknown exception occured:

java.io.FileNotFoundException: http://myserver.lcl:80/nms-sdk-notify/subscribe

at sun.net.www.protocol.http.HttpURLConnection.getInputStream(Unknown Source)

at com.alarmpoint.integrations.nnmi.NetworkNodeManagerWSUtil.sendReceive(NetworkNodeManagerWSUtil.java:114)

at com.alarmpoint.integrations.nnmi.NetworkNodeManagerSubscriptionUtil.subscribe(NetworkNodeManagerSubscriptionUtil.java:210)

at com.alarmpoint.integrations.nnmi.NetworkNodeManagerSubscriptionUtil.run(NetworkNodeManagerSubscriptionUtil.java:77)

Not sure if this is a case of the integration being corrupted or the files on the XMatters server incorrect.  Don't see that there is a nms-sdk-notify file

missing on NNMi, and have verifed that it does exist on the server.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

xMatters 5.0.9: voice utilities need to be installed?

$

Just installed a new Phone Device Engine on our newly installed xMatters 5.0.9 environment.  When attempting to start the Phone Device Engine, the device's log file shows an error reading:

"ERROR   -  - Unable to start phone engine, voice utilities are not installed. Please reinstall node."

Do I really have to reinstall the entire Node or can I simply install the voice utilities?

Thanks,

Sven

Users I Supervise

Hello All,

I’m in the beginning stages of learning and configuring xMatters and I’m a little confused on “Group Supervisors” and “Users I Supervise”.  If a user is made the Supervisor of a group, should that Supervisor get a list of Users from that group under their “Users I Supervise”?

NNMI Null Events

$

Greetings,

Wondered if anyone had experienced similar issues with HP Network Node Manager 9.01 or such.  When receiving a NNMI - XM notification alert, will receive periodic NULL events where every position on the notification refers to a NULL event and does not cite a specific NODE or piece of HARDWARE.  Trying to figure it out, I do now that we have rate and deduplication set up to slow the amount of events generated?

Will XMatters generate a NULL event due to a deduplication or rate correlation event?  IS there any solution on how to prevent the production of a NULL event??

Thank you,

Pat

The Sentinel service failed to start

Hi all,

Just did a fresh install on my Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 x86-64 system (all patched till today).

Installed the xMatters 4.1 with all new and shiny installer (xm410-Windows-Win32(NewInstaller Build 549)).

After installation of xMatters Web/App/Not on the same server I rebooted and ended up with a Service Control Manager event:

The Sentinel service failed to start due to the following error:

This driver has been blocked from loading

Never used the Sentinal service/package before... does anyone know why it does not start?

Thanks in advance for any reply!

Report - User profile dump

Does anyone know how to export a list of all the users in (x)matters to include all the contact devices, times, groups, etc?

Also, when using the "who's on duty" report, if you expand beyond one day the contact (user devices) are not listed.  If you just create the report for a day, the information is there.  Anyone know how to get (x)matters to include the contact data when creating a report beyond one day?

Thanks for the help!

Hey clients and xPerts!

Does anyone have any experience with the BMC Control - M integration? And can anyone speak to Distributed vs Mainframe implemtations of Control -M and how the integration (can?) handle that. If you don't want to post here, feel free to pm me or email travis.depuy@techport13.com.

In this particular case, the client is using 6.3.09 mainframe.

Thanks!!

CA Spectrum Model List Truncation

$

This is a continuation from the Spectrum Subscription Panel Thread http://community.xmatters.com/message/8095#8095  I'm creating a discussion as that one was splintering quite a bit.

This issue was discovered by Jason and Rodney- Essentially, Model Names were getting truncated to 16 characters in the output list.  Here are some of my findings (largely copied from the other thread)

This appears to be occurring from Spectrum (or at least the call that is used from xMatters to Spectrum).  The way I validated was as follows:

Using Kim's previous comments...From your Spectrum box at the command lineNavigate to <SpecHome>\vmnshRun "connect <SpecServerName>"Run "Show Models"
You'll notice a list of all the models, and that they are truncated in this display as well.  You can then run a search from the xMatters Spectrum Subscription Sub-Panel for one of the truncated names and note that the truncations match. Part of the root issue is found in the CA Spectrum CLI Guide on page 11:

CLIMNAMEWIDTH

Displays a model name. By default, the create, seek, and show commands each display a maximum of 16 characters for a model name. However, with the environment variable CLIMNAMEWIDTH, you can specify up to 1024 characters to be displayed for model names. For example, using the C shell:

setenv CLIMNAMEWIDTH 32

You can set this variable in your .login file, in a script, or just before you issue a command. You can set or change any number of times in a CLI session, depending on the length of the model names.

I made some small progress:

So in Windows I defined a Windows System Variable and called it "CLIMNAMEWIDTH" and gave it a value of 32.  We then restarted the Spectrum service.  When I run the 'Show Models' from the Command Line it now outputs with 32 as the width.  However, in xMatters on the Subscription Sub-Panel, it now appears to truncate at 18 characters instead of 16...so there's still some truncation, but a little bit more is displayed.
With debug on, I was monitoring the APIA AlarmPoint.log and it displays the models coming back from Spectrum.  One of the big things I noticed was that when using 'show models' from the command line it would show very clean, with the APIA output it appeared to be inserting spaces in the middle of model names which was then not getting parsed properly for output.  I think there may be something going on with the way the results are being handled.

Virtual Phone Device Fails to Start

$

...this might be a bit esoteric given that my configuration is a bit unusual.

I'm working with an instance of xMatters 5.0 running under VMWare.

The installation is: xMatters Enterprise v5.04(r55023)

The VMWare player is: 5.0.0.

The Host OS is: Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit 6.1.7601, Service Pack 1

The issue is that I cannot get the Phone Device Engine to initialize. The Virtual Device Engine reports good health and appears to be running.

My attempts to start the Phone Device Engine generate this output in the Alarmpoint_phone.txt

2012-09-10 16:45:21,595 [NodeManagerInternalEventTimer] ERROR   -  - Phone line 1: Failed to initialize line wrapper. com.invoqsystems.apex.component.device.engine.phone.exceptions.PhoneApiException: <message>Failed to initialize voice control. com.inzoom.comjni.ComJniException:  AD Resource Manager warning:SimTrunk0 Make sure hardware and drivers are installed and running, ProfileConfig has been run correctly, and/or the Simulated Phone is started. 2012-09-10 16:45:22,824 [NodeManagerInternalEventTimer] INFO    -  - PSTN: Stop resource manager.

After receiving this message, I started the AP Virtual Phone (build 19) by hand and the log output remains the same. (well, with new timestamps)

One thing I wondered about that might be related is the issue of whether the VM has ownership of the system audio device.  Should that not be the case, could this sort of an error occur?

How do I send a notification to all recipients of an event that someone has acknowledged an alert?

$

0

The Problem/Goal:  I need to send a follow-up email to all recipients of an event of who acknowledged the event.  This way the original recipients of the event will know who the main contact is and also that someone has taken ownership of the event.

Possible Solutions:

  1. Can I somehow use the “Event Priority” within xMatters of high, medium, and low to first set the event to high priority and send the alerts out to the all persons in the subscription and then after receiving the acknowledgment change the event priority to low and then have only email sent out the subscription.  (we currently don’t use Event Priority so this would be big change for us)
  2. Same as option one but without the use of Event Priority
  3. Include the help desk ticket number in the first alert sent out regarding an event so the customer could look up the status of the event on demand
  4. Somehow offer the option to the original recipients of an event to subscribe to just that event so they receive updates regarding the status of that event (such as who acknowledged the event)

Questions:

  1. Is this a common practice for xMatters customers to have an acknowledgement email sent to the original recipients of an event?
  2. What scripting changes do I need to accomplish this task?
  3. What changes do I need to make to my subscriptions?

Thanks for the help,

JVM option -Xss | Set Thread Stack Size

$

Has anyone adjusted this value for their xMatters JVMs?

Does xMatters have a minimum value for this setting?

On Windows 2008 R2 x64 with 4GB of RAM and xMatters Web Server the ONLY application installed on the server, I'm getting an OutOfMemoryError.

Memory options in the webserver-start.conf are:

-Xms1152m

-Xmx1152m

-XX:MaxPermSize=256m

I can reduce the Xms if need be, but some solutions I've seen suggest lowering the stack size.  Seems like with 4GB of RAM should be able to allocate 1.1GB fo to the heap.

Any idea what the default stack size is?  What is the minimum value that it can safely be?  512k?  1024k?

Problems getting xmatters-4.1.10.wsdl to generate correctly in Eclipse

$

Hello All,

I am attempting to write some JSP page interfaces against the xmatters web service interface. I have succesfully been able to load http://localhost:8888/api/services/AlarmPointWebService?wsdl into eclipse and write my pages against it and get back the expected results from the web service calls...

HOWEVER, when I looked up why I couldn't access some functions it was because they were implemented in the xmatters-4.1.10?wsdl. So I loaded 4.1.10 web service url into ecplise to build the web service clent but something is not right. After I select to build and test the client in eclipse it only gives me the endpoint functions instead of the entire list of functions available in the web service ... I will attach an image of this (img1.jpg). After I complete the build of the web services client and look in the eclipse navigator these files are showing unsuccessful compilation errors.....

Xmatters4110.java

Xmatters4110Locator.java

Xmatters4110PortTypeProxy.java

Xmatters4110SOAP11BindingStub.java

Most if not all of these errors have to do with Xmatters4110PortTypeProxy.

When I crack open Xmatters4110PortTypeProxy here is the first error in the file.....

** com.xmatters.www.webservices.schema.Xmatters4110PortType cannot be resolved to a type **

This is shown in img2.JPG

Any help would be appreciated...

Nick
